JOIN A KREWE!
A Krewe (pronounced “crew”) is a social organization that host a ball and/or parade during the Carnival season. The term is best known for its association with Mardi Gras celebrations. Krewe members are assessed dues in order to pay for activities such as the ball or parade. Dues can range from $25 – $500 dollars a year per person depending on the number of activities, the elaborateness of the ball, and size of the parade.
Criteria for Krewe membership varies similarly, ranging from groups of friends, family, co-workers, with common interest to those which are open to anyone who pays the membership dues.
Krewes of Mardi Gras Southeast Texas are volunteer organizations that help staff the carnival event Mardi Gras weekend, some members volunteer to help repair and decorate the parade floats or serve on committees that design and decorate for the krewe’s ball. Level of participation is determined by you. Parading krewe members are usually responsible for buying their own throws, such as beads, trinkets, cups etc. which are thrown to parade spectators along the parade route. Some krewes also have other events, such as private dances or parties for members throughout the year. Some also make a point of supporting charities and good causes.
